Vancouver Convention Centre has one of the prime locations in Vancouver. Jutting out into Coal Harbour on the north side of the
downtown peninsula it enjoys unhindered views of the
North Shore Mountains and
Stanley Park.
The distinctive sails of the original Vancouver Convention Centre have been a part of Vancouver’s skyline since the
World’s Fair Expo in 1986. The venue which has hosted local, national and international events was expanded in 2009 with the addition of the West Building located a short walk along the Harbour Seawalk.
The new wing, which sports a green roof instead of sails, housed the media during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. With the West Building fully open for business, Vancouver Convention Centre has tripled the space it has available to 466,500 sq ft.

Coffee break
Artigiano’s, just a hop and a skip away from the convention centre on the corner of West Pender and Thurlow, is one of Vancouver’s favoured
caffeine joints. Artigiano’s is home of the $15 cup of gourmet coffee as well as more reasonably priced brews.
Business lunch
Admire the chandeliers and enjoy
dim sum in the elegant dining room of the Imperial Chinese Seafood Restaurant. Imperial, which is located in the beautiful art deco Marine Building at 355 Burrard Street, is a five minute walk from convention centre East Building.
Mill Marine Bistro & Bar on the waterfront at West Cordova and Bute and Cardero’s in Coal Harbour Quay offer
outdoor patios, buzz and beautiful views close to the West Building.
Evening entertaining
The smart condo neighbourhood of Coal Harbour sits right next door to the West Building. The area may be affluent but it’s pretty quiet when the sun sets. There are plenty of hotel bars and restaurants to choose from in the neighbourhood but to get a taste of local Vancouver life, head to
Gastown. It’s ten minutes from Canada Place on foot and boasts some of the city’s hippest bars, pubs and
cocktail lounges.
Shopping
For aboriginal art and jade jewellery try Water Street in Gastown. For luxury labels there’s Holt Renfrew on Dunsmuir and Howe. For more “wallet-friendly” fashions, cross the covered walkway to Pacific Centre Mall.
After hours
In the summer bike rental is available from the harbour seawall which links up with Stanley Park’s seawall. Alternatively, walk along the Coal Harbour promenade and pause for coffee, a picnic in a waterside park or to gawk at the yachts in the marina.
The West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre sits right next to a busy floatplane terminal. Book a scenic tour around Vancouver or hop over to Victoria on a 35-minute flight.
Luxury Spa Facilities are located at CHI, the Spa at Shangri-La, at 1128 West Georgia and Spa Utopia at the Pan Pacific at Canada Place.
