Wildlife Watching in Whistler BC

Black bears, marmots, pika, black-tail deer, beavers and otters all call Whistler home. But the bears are the animals that visitors pay big bucks to see.
The resident population of about 50 lives in the surrounding valleys and ski slopes although they'll occasionally venture into a condo complex in search of garbage.
Black bear and ecology tours which take visitors up mountain back roads in 4x4 vehicles are available through Whistler Blackcomb resort.
In Whistler Valley the best wildlife viewing is from the River of Golden Dreams which runs between Alta Lake and Green Lake. Bring your own canoe or kayak or book a twilight river tour to go in search of black bears, beaver, otter and waterfowl.

Tips: If you’re on a gondola, keep your eye on the ground as bears can sometimes be spotted below as they forage for food.
